Jean-Marie Massaud
Since graduating from Paris’ ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Paris Design Institute in 1990, Jean-Marie Massaud has been working on an extensive range of works, stretching from architecture to objects, from one-off project to on-going ones, from macro environment to micro contexts. Beyond these elegant designs (from stadium, flying hotel, and concept-car to art table and furniture collections) his quest for lightness – in matters of essence – synthesize three broader stakes: individual and collective fulfilment, economic and industrial efficiency, and environmental concerns. Major brands (Arper, Axor, Christofle, Air France, Toyota) have solicited his ability to mix comfort and elegance, mood and heritage, generosity and distinction.
Studio Massaud was founded in 1996 by Jean-Marie Massaud and Daniel Pouzet. The multi-disciplinary practice is focussed on brand, architecture, industrial and furniture design. The firm is driven by the pursuit of ‘synthesis, lightness, transparency and the reduction of the superfluous’. Studio Massaud has created many collections for Arper, like Aston, Sean, Fred, Ginger and Steeve. Born in Toulouse in 1966, Massaud studied at Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris and has since collaborated with Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cacharel, and Yamaha among many others. The recipient of several prizes, Massaud designs are housed in major museums, including the permanent collections of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de Paris and Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich.
