Launched at the 58th edition of Salone del Mobile in April, the Turati Collection by Sancal is a tribute to the modernity of Milan and its conservatism, as the city creates contemporary classics. A paradigm exemplified perfectly by its metropolitan network´s construction. The 1963 M1 line project, masterfully designed by the Italian architect Franco Albini and the graphic designer Bob Noorda, was extended to the M2 line and created a base for successive lines. The M3 line, in which the Turati station is located, was designed in 1983 by Claudio Dini’s architecture studio, and is a clear example of this admirable respect for contemporary classics.
The inspiration for this new collection was delivered by Sancal’s very own dynamic combo, Esther and Elena Castano and an apparent wrong turn on the metro during the 2018 Milan Design Week. Leading the design creative was Luca Nichetto, an Italy-based multi-disciplinary designer with studios in Venice and Stockholm, Sweden. This collection marks his first collaboration with Sancal and takes us on a journey through shapes, textures and colours.
Nichetto and his design team recreated some of the most iconic passages of the M3 line, providing a common aesthetic language exclusively using grey, yellow and red tones to mirror the colour palette found at Turati Station.
The collection features a Next Stop sofa, an Interchange bench, a Meeting Point pouf and a Mind the Gap rug.
