Toyo Ito’s series of benches inspired by the algorithm of the double helix result in naming them Konoha – a Japanese word meaning “tree leaves”. Their function is to facilitate connection among people in open and transient spaces. By combining the pieces of the series in different ways, we alter the rhythms. By changing the position or orientation of the benches, we can modify the context and adapt to the dimensions of any space.
